Cheetah Cubs: Four Furballs
Shot on Location:
Ndutu, Tanzania, February 2015 with the 1Dx and Canon 500mm f/4 II
This was another successful trip where my goal was to find young cheetah cubs under 2 months old. It was a blast observing these four fourballs and their unique personalities.
We also found one month old cheetah triplets hidden by their mom in the marsh. They were as cute as can be, of course, and we waited days for them to come out. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be.
My sense of urgency for seeing and sharing endearing images of cheetahs is that there are only 7,100 left in the wild, down from 14,000 in the mid-70's. The decline has been escalating in recent years due to shrinking habitats and poachers. At the going rate, it's been predicted that the population will be down another 50% in 15 years. Yes, this is very tragic.
